Maryland airport runs regular emergency drills

Emergency crews in Salisbury, Maryland, recently went through drills at the Salisbury-Ocean City Wicomico Regional Airport to practice disaster emergency response and recovery, according to Delmarva Now. The drills, mandated training exercises that occur every three years, were a joint effort between local city firefighters and the airport's private emergency responders.
Firefighters went through procedures on a U.S. Airways Express passenger plane, the largest aircraft that operates out of the airport, as mandated by the Federal Aviation Administration, according to Bob Bryant, the airport manager. Bryant went on to note that while the airport had never experienced an emergency with a plane as large as the U.S. Airways twin engine prop plane, there had been emergencies with smaller craft in the past.
The drill tested emergency responders' decision making skills, using volunteers as wounded and dead passengers. Responders were tasked with assessing the situation, prioritizing victims, stabilizing them and extricating them safely from the aircraft, according to the source.
