Homemade plane crashes in California

A small, experimental plane recently crashed in the central California desert, killing a 65-year-old Palmdale man. The plane went down around 1:30 p.m. in an open area just off State Route 14.
Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor told The Associated Press that the agency does not know why the single-engine Vans RV-8 plane crashed. The two-seat plane was found near the Kern County city of Ridgecrest, and the local sheriff's office identified the victim as Richard Crosley.
The Los Angeles Times reported officials identified the plane as homemade, making it difficult to discover what exactly could have caused the crash. An investigator with the National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash, but it could take the agency months to find probable cause for the incident.
The crash illustrates the importance of pilot insurance. Even if pilots are not flying homemade aircrafts, they should still protect their family and finances with insurance.
