Ohio honors aviation industry

July 19, 2010, 03:58 pm

The aviation industry's economic impact on the state of Ohio is not going unrecognized.

Governor Ted Strickland has formally proclaimed July 16 as the state's "Aviation Industry Awareness Day."

Often referred to as the "Birthplace of Aviation," the governor noted the importance of aircraft manufacturing, educational programs and airports on the community.

Over 17,000 jobs in the state are associated with the aircraft industry, pumping $5.5 billion into the local economy.

There are also 10 doctoral programs offered at the state's universities.

"Ohio is home to some of the best and brightest talent in the aerospace industry, and continues to provide the necessary tools to support business growth and to allow individuals to pursue both their professional and personal aspirations," says executive director of the Ohio Business Development Coalition Ed Burghard.

The Ohio Department of Transportation notes that the state's airport system is robust, consisting of 176 public-use facilities consisting of airports, heliports and seaplane landings areas.

Events honoring the industry will continue to be held in the state this month, including an air show and ceremony at the National Aviation Hall of Fame.ADNFCR-3158-ID-19896339-ADNFCR
