Scholarship helps teenager pursue aviation training

July 2, 2010, 04:25 pm

Some people have always known that they'd love to fly. That is the case for 15-year-old Tyler Allen.

The teenager from Window Rock, Arizona lives 30 miles away from the nearest flight school, but that hasn't stopped him from pursuing his passion.

Allen took part in the Experimental Aircraft Association Academy this summer where he has been able to learn more about aviation.

"The first time I ever flew was on an airline flight, and I loved it from the start, especially the view from above," said Allen. "I never knew what it was like to see down from the sky."

Every year, the EAA has an essay contest to award scholarships to the week-long air academy.

The help from EAA has prevented financial and logistical obstacles from stopping Allen from nurturing his talent. Pilot Greg Brown has been impressed with Allen's keen sense of direction and natural ability to navigate an aircraft.

Even though attending flight school and becoming a pilot may be a major financial obligation, there are ways for people to seek assistance and pursue the activity.ADNFCR-3158-ID-19871720-ADNFCR
