President's visit prompts flight restrictions for Chicago

Pilots who plan on flying in the Chicago area should take note of restrictions ordered by the Federal Aviation Administration.
The flight restrictions are in effect from May 27-31 and were called for because of a scheduled visit by President Barack Obama. Pilots who fly in that area should make regular checks with the FAA to see if any alterations are made to the flight advisory for Chicago.
"The restrictions are designed to provide a safe and secure environment for the visit, but also ensure fair and equitable access to all airspace users to the greatest extent possible," the FAA said.
Pilots who do not obey the restrictions may be subject to a number of actions, including being intercepted and interviewed by members of law enforcement. Furthermore, civil and criminal penalties may be pursued, along with the revocation of air certificates.
In fact, the government reserves the right to use deadly force on an aircraft in the restricted airspace if it presents a security threat. Only certain aircraft, including those associated with military or law enforcement operations, are allowed within the restricted flight area.
