Aviation events: New and old

October 17, 2012, 04:12 pm

Landmark Aviation recently hosted an open house event to show off its newly remodeled facility at the Roanoke Regional Airport in Virginia.

“Landmark Aviation is committed to supporting and furthering the future growth of the Roanoke Valley community, and we are excited to be able to offer a truly first-class experience to those flying into the area,” General Manager John Wilson noted. “We would also like to thank the Roanoke Regional Airport Commission for their support and cooperation throughout the remodel process.”

The renovations cost nearly $1 million and included a remodeled terminal and executive conference room and bistro area, along with updates to its hangar. The changes included a new paint job, carpet, furniture and fixtures.

As for upcoming events, the New England AIr Museum in Windsor Locks, Connecticut, is holding its annual Veterans Day program on November 11.

Event-goers will have a chance to meet and talk with former combat veterans from World War II, the Cold War era, Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan. In addition, numerous aircraft from the museum will be open for visitors enjoyment and entry, including the Bell UH-1 “Huey” helicopter, the P-47 Thunderbolt, the Vought F4U Corsair, the F-100 SuperSabre, and the Kaman SH-2F Seasprite helicopter.

Any former servicemembers will receive half off the museum's admission prices throughout the month of November. The museum will donate the other half of the ticket cost to the Friends of Fisher House Connecticut.

The Friends of Fisher House Connecticut builds and maintains residential facilities near military hospitals across the United States. The organization is currently raising funds to build a Fisher House in West Haven, Connecticut.

Another event is showing off aircraft that is open for the public to purchase. Various aviation dealers in Arizona are hosting the fourth annual Arizona Aircraft Expo, which is slated to take place November 9 and 10 at Landmark Aviation at Scottsdale Airport.

The public, as well as prospective buyers, will have a chance to view the latest and greatest aircraft currently on the market from aviation companies like Cessna, Cirrus, Beechcraft, Diamond, Eclipse, Embraer, Piper, Lancair, Quest and CubCrafters.

The event is free and makes it easy for those looking to acquire a plane as various aviation servicers including Aviation Tax Consultants, AirFleet Capital, Wings Aviation Insurance and Airport Property Specialists will be on hand at the event.

Events like these serve as an important reminder that pilot life insurance is crucial to anyone flying in the general aviation community.
