Domestic flights popular for summer travel

With Labor Day right around the corner, many travelers are planning their end-of-summer vacation destinations. According to data from Orbtiz, it looks like there are a few popular locations pilots will be heading off to frequently within the next few weeks.
Orbitz's Labor Day Weekend Index found that, for the most part, people are planning on flying domestically. The top 10 locations for Labor Day are all in the country, according to Orbitz, with Las Vegas being the top pick for the third consecutive year.
"Metropolitan destinations close to home top travelers' lists as the most popular destinations this Labor Day," said Orbitz Worldwide senior travel editor Jeanenne Tornatore. "Although international hoteliers are still offering consumers significant reductions in nightly rates versus historic levels, stateside locales will benefit the most over the Labor Day weekend as travelers open their wallets to take advantage of deeply discounted hotel rates."
These findings mirror those by the Research and Innovative Technology Administration. RITA says that 97 percent of summer travel destinations are within the U.S. Summer, for the purposes of the study, is defined as the time period from the Thursday before Memorial Day and the Wednesday after Labor Day.
