Event to educate pilots on radio use

July 16, 2012, 04:35 pm

An August 1 general aviation seminar on Radio Use in the Traffic Pattern by Pilots of Light Sport Aircraft was recently granted approval to award attendees with WINGS credit.

Put on by the Popular Rotorcraft Association and the FAASTeam, the Federal Aviation Administration's safety education program, the seminar will be geared toward pilots of low-mass, high drag small aircraft along pilots with faster and larger aircraft wanting to know how to maintain flight traffic patterns with other slower aircraft. A convention will provide instruction on radio use for pilots in LSA aircraft and discussion of non-tower traffic operations.

"We are a group of people who love homebuilt rotorcraft - gyroplanes and helicopters that they build and fly themselves," reads the PRA website. "These rotorcraft enthusiasts get together to exchange ideas, information, help one another, promote safety and help with flight training."

Pilots who attend the event can receive WINGS credit and have the class added to their WINGS instructional record.

The PRA is the only organization in the United States that is exclusively devoted to pilots and builders of personal rotorcraft. Company officials have said they will continue their efforts in education for the general aviation community.

Pilots in the general aviation community are encouraged to consider pilot life insurance in order to prepare for an unlikely accident.
