Skyships prepared for takeoff

March 11, 2013, 01:46 pm

The first of several new Skyships is expected to be released in May. Skyship Services recently signed a contract to launch the aircraft.Skyships are used for advertising, aerial photography and survey work, performing the job of 12 helicopters and multiple drones at a less expensive cost, according to Julian Benscher, president of Skyship Services."Most people think of airships as representative of a bygone era but in fact they provide the world's most stable flying aerial platform with unparalleled endurance capabilities," Benscher said. The aircraft will be 200 feet long once finished and is currently being assembled at a hangar facility close to Elizabeth City, North Carolina. The Skyship will start in Florida and then fly from the East Coast to the West Coast. The latest Skyship is a product of Westinghouse Electric Corporation, which spent $200 million on design, development and certification of the aircraft.Considering the dangers of flying , those who will be navigating the Skyship or any other aircraft should make sure they have pilot insurance. Purchasing pilot insurance gives the aviator and their families protection from significant financial losses if things go wrong while in the air.
