Keep tires in working order for flight safety

December 16, 2010, 03:33 pm

Proper aircraft maintenance is important for flight safety. A plane can malfunction if equipment isn't kept in working order.

Good year has tips for those looking to maintain their aircraft's tires. Product support manager Larry Rapsard says proper wheel installation can take several hours.

"All tires, particularly bias tires, will stretch after the initial inflation, causing a volume increase and a corresponding drop in pressure," says Rapsard. "For that reason, tires should not be placed in service until they've been inflated for a minimum of 12 hours and reinflated if necessary."

Rapsard also recommends checking tire pressure on a regular basis because deflation can happen within just 24 hours.

In addition to making sure tires are properly inflated, it's important to have life insurance for pilots. Taking care of an aircraft and following proper procedures are good safety measures to take before a flight, however there are things people should do to ensure their safety after a flight. The coverage provided by a policy can be extremely helpful to loved ones should something go wrong during a flight.
