Pilot and passenger safe following hard landing at Pueblo Airport

October 25, 2011, 04:28 pm

A flight instructor and student pilot were unharmed following what officials are calling a hard landing in Pueblo, Colorado, on Monday. Even so, the airport was closed for several hours and investigators are still looking into the cause of the crash, according to KKTV 11, a CBS affiliate in Colorado.

The airplane, a single engine Diamond DA20 training plane, suffered minor damage in the landing, according to a U.S. Air Force representative. The pilot, who is currently in training, was on board with an Air Force Lieutenant. The news source reports that the pair was going through flight screening, a training process that involves take offs and landings.

The airplane hit the runway during a landing and lost control, skidding approximately 125 feet down the runway. The news source reports that the National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.

Proper and extensive flight training is key to safe operation of any aircraft, and trainees benefit from the required hours of in-flight training as well as safety seminars offered through many aviation organizations. Pilot groups may also offer life insurance for pilots and other pilot estate planning products at discounted rates along with membership.
