Airline builds and donates bicycles for children

October 26, 2010, 07:08 am

With aid for food and healthcare being limited, some of the country's youngest residents may be doing without. This can be particularly true when it comes to items beyond necessities.

Twenty children in Utah received new bicycles thanks to SkyWest Airlines. In collaboration with the Family Support Center of St. George, almost 100 SkyWest employees built bicycles. Each bike was put together and designed with a specific child in mind and decked out with a "Fly SkyWest Airlines" license plate.

SkyWest president and COO Chip Childs says he was glad to be part of the event.

"It is unbelievable to be here with these kids and to share in their excitement today," says Childs. "I'm proud to be a small part of this fantastic group of people here at SkyWest where everyone is constantly working to improve the world around us."

The airline has participated in other social causes. Earier this year, SkyWest donated more than $184,000 to Haiti eartquake vicitms. The funds were raised from employee donations with the company matching their efforts dollar for dollar.
