Arkansas plane crash injures 2

November 21, 2011, 06:56 pm

Two people were recently injured when a single-engine experimental Zodiac plane crashed after taking off from the Clinton Municipal Airport in Arkansas.

KTHV Clinton reported Stephen James, the plane's owner, was taken to the University of Arkansas Medical System in Little Rock due to a possible broken leg and ribs as a result of the crash. James's passenger, was taken to the Clinton Medical Center, but only sustained minor injuries.

The pilot lost control of the plane after a canopy on top of the aircraft blew off. James told the source he attempted to fly back to Clinton for a safe landing, but ended up crash landing about 100 yards from the runway.

ABC television affiliate for Springfield, Missouri, KSPR, reported The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating this crash as well as a fatal incident that occurred 50 miles south of Clinton Municipal Airport killing one passenger. The aircraft reportedly went down south of Perryville near the Ouachita National Forest, and the rugged terrain is making it difficult for investigators to access and inspect the site.
