Aviation meets artistry in Pennsylvania

September 9, 2010, 09:22 pm

Some people love the idea of being a pilot and flying because it allows them to go places they wouldn't be able to otherwise. Flying, as well, can be a lot like artwork. With the stroke of a paintbrush an artist, too, can explore new places.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is putting aviation and artistry together by encouraging children to put their creativity to good use by entering their annual aviation art contest.

This years theme is "view from the pilot's seat," and 22 winners in grades first through fifth will be chosen from across the state. Winners receive a certificate and a mounted copy of their artwork.

PennDot secretary Allen Biehler says the department has been happy with previous submissions.

"We've been very pleased with the participation and creativity students showed in this contest in the past," says Biehler. "Aviation supports thousands of jobs in Pennsylvania, so we're glad that kids are learning about an importantindustry and having fun at the same time."

With a number of airports in the state, Pennsylvanians benefit from numerous employment opportunities provided by the aviation industry.ADNFCR-3158-ID-19937995-ADNFCR
