FAA building HQ on Alliance land

The Federal Aviation Administration is planning to move its southwest regional headquarters and Air Traffic Organization's central service center to the land near Alliance Town Center. The 45-acre plot is located in Fort Worth, Texas, off Interstate 35W.
According to the Dallas Business Journal, the $160 million development is expected to break ground in spring 2013. The General Services Administration will be managing the development of the FAA's project and will select a developer, architect and general contractor. The GSA has already started searching for the best development team for the project, and plans to have hiring decisions finalized by the fall.
The new facility will house about 1,400 employees who are currently working out of leased offices, and meet the federal government's sustainability initiatives for energy conservation and security. The facility will replace the 290,000-square-foot office space the FAA has been renting out since 1993, which is too small to accommodate its operations, the Star-Telegram reported.
Since 2006, the FAA has nearly doubled its workforce in the Fort Worth area. The new facility is part of the administration's reorganization of employees and operations. The GSA will choose about 10 companies to submit applications and detailed proposals to construct the facility, and make their final selections in time for construction to start early 2013, the source reported.
