Fees for baggage, tickets biggest annoyances for travelers

May 17, 2010, 03:22 pm

Having to pay more for a ticket or for baggage are the two most annoying things people encounter while they are on the go, a recent survey showed.

According to the Consumer Reports' poll, baggage fees came in at 8.4 on a scale of one to 10 for consumers surveyed, followed at 8.1 by ticket fees. Through the poll, 2,000 Americans were asked to rate a variety of travel problems.

"Travelers were also very annoyed by rude or unhelpful staff, whether at airlines, hotels, or rental-car companies," Consumer Reports said.

Some of the complaints fell along lines of gender, as things like expensive hotel foods, insufficient bedding and imposing sales presentations for additional rental car options bothered women more than men. Meanwhile, age also played a factor, as younger people found rude staff to be more annoying, while older people saw their ire spike regarding kids who misbehave on airplanes.

One thing that may bother travelers is being stuck on a tarmac in an airplane for extended periods of time. However, new rules from the Department of Transportation should help that, as air travelers will have to be let off a plane after it has been waiting for three hours.ADNFCR-3158-ID-19781125-ADNFCR
