GE Aviation opens repair facility in Brisbane

GE Aviation, an international company, recently opened a new repair facility in Brisbane, Australia, to support operators of the company's Bombardier Q400 aircraft in the country. The new facility will not only offer additional resources to local operators, but also increase the company's market share as it continues to expand globally. The facility will focus on repairing blades and spinners.
The new facility has already been certified by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority of Australia and meets the European Air Safety Authority standards. The workers at the Brisbane airport have completed all required training prior to the launch of the repair facility, which has gained approval for activities regarding propeller maintenance and replacement.
While GE Aviation continues to expand globally, many of its employees in Gloucestershire, England, are on the verge of striking due to disputes over pensions. More than 200 GE workers held a mass meeting to decide whether they would go on strike until their demands were met, This is Gloucestershire reported.
The dispute involves a new policy that could prevent new employees from joining a final salary pension scheme, as well as an increase in annual pension payments.
"We need to send a very clear signal to GE Aviation that is is not an acceptable way to treat a loyal, dedicated and hardworking workforce which underpins its success in the U.K," said Ian Waddell, union leader, to a crowd of GE workers at the meeting.
