GE to add more jobs in North Carolina, Ohio

October 15, 2010, 11:37 am

The economic downturn has left many looking for work. GE Aviation, however, is expected to add to its workforce in the near future.

The company recently announced it will have approximately 40 new hourly job vacancies this year in Durham, North Carolina. Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that the unemployment rate in North Carolina currently sits at 9.7 percent.

GE Aviation Durham facility plant manager Doug McLean says the company has put money into their property as well.

"The expanded workforce and the $8 million investment in the facility and equipment will enable us to manage the growing production volume of GE's new fuel-efficient GEnx engine for the Boeing 787 and 747-8 aircraft along with the increased production for GE90, CFM56, GP7200 and CF34 engine lines," says McLean.

GE also has plans to add even more jobs in Ohio next year. The Business Courier of Cincinnati says the company has plans to create 500 jobs in Evendale and Dayton, Ohio.Government statistics show the unemployment rate is at 10.1 percent in the state.
