Newest Boeing airplane completes maiden voyage

September 28, 2011, 05:35 pm

Boeing's new 787 Dreamliner completed its maiden voyage to Tokyo recently, and is slated to make its first commercial flight from Tokyo to Hong Kong on October 26, according to VOA News. The company says it has already received more than 800 orders for the state-of-the-art aircraft, which lists for between $185.2 and $218 million dollars.

The pilot of the plane on its first trip, Hideaki Hayakawa, said he believes the airplane is representative of the great potiential between All Nippon Airways and Boeing as well as the United States and Japan, in a larger sense. Hayakawa noted that the airplane was incredibly responsive, a fact he attributed to the advanced composite materials that compose much of the fuselage.

The materials, which make the mid-size plane significantly lighter than it's predecessor, provide for a smoother flight and much improved fuel economy.

Pilots for major airlines, flying some of the most advanced planes in the skies, still take many of the same essential risks that independent pilots do, and both often subscribe to pilot insurance policies that are specifically tailored to their lifestyles. A typical insurance policy may not protect against the risk of injury or loss that results from a career in aviation, and many aviators purchase pilot insurance policies through an aviator group for a discounted rate.
