Piper Aircraft saw a strong 75th year in business

February 12, 2013, 11:09 am

After celebrating its 75th anniversary just months ago, Piper Aircraft recently reported that both revenue and deliveries were up last year.

According to Piper, the aircraft company ended the year with revenue up 13 percent on a year-over-year comparison, while deliveries were up 16 percent during the same period of time. Officials noted that new aircraft sales were more than $1.5 million in 2012, up  from more than $1.3 million a year prior. The latest sales accounted for 158 new aircraft. In the industry as a whole, fourth quarter revenue for new aircraft sales was more than $42 million in 2012, accounting for a more than 8 percent year-over-year increase.

“We stabilized the manufacturing and delivery of new aircraft throughout the year as our initiative to level-load factory production continued to meet with success," said Piper President and CEO Simon Caldecott. "At the same time, our overall aircraft deliveries rose faster than the rest of the industry. The company also met internal financial forecasts and continued working long-range product plans for the future.”

Besides revenue and deliveries, Piper is also boasting that it delivered 10 Seminole training aircraft to Airline Transport Professionals, in addition to delivering a number of Warrior training aircraft to the government flight school, Sekolah Tinggi Penerbangan, in Indonesia. Piper officials also noted that the company expanded by opening new dealers in Chile, Central America, the Netherlands, India, Turkey, Korea and China.

Piper celebrated 75th anniversary in November
Piper Aircraft and the Piper Cub's celebrated its 75th anniversary on November 9 through the 11 in Vero Beach, Florida with a customer fly-in.

Caldecott said the event had sponsors lining up, as well as political leaders and the aviation media.

There were 20 companies that helped out with the event, which featured a welcome reception, vendor exhibits, aircraft static display, customer awards, facility tours, a history lesson from Piper's official historian, a Piper meet-up and a pancake breakfast. Some of the companies featured at the event included Bendix King by Honeywell, Bose, Garmin International, SimCom Training Centers, DuPont, Jeppesen and Aviall.

Piper and the overall success of the aviation industry in 2012 bodes well for the general aviation community. Those flying planes in the new year are reminded to never take off without pilot life insurance. This insurance will provide for family members in the unlikely event of an emergency and will help pilots plan out their financial plans in the new year.
