Plane makes emergency landing in New York

November 14, 2011, 07:56 pm

A small plane recently made an emergency landing in Colden, New York, after experiencing engine failure and water damage to its left wing and propeller.

The NBC affiliate for Buffalo, New York, WGRZ, reported the pilot told the Eerie County Sheriff's Department that he was having engine trouble and had to make a difficult emergency landing in the woods. The pilot, Thomas Treharne, was flying with 16-year-old Kristopher Zeigler, and the trip had been planned for some time. No one was hurt in the crash.

Another small plane crashed recently after being forced to attempt an emergency landing in Burleson County, Texas. The two men in the plane were able to call 911 as they made their way out of the plane with minor injuries, Bryan, Texas, news provider The Eagle reported. The plane was making its way to San Antonio when the pilot started experiencing fuel problems.

KBTX Bryan/College Station reported the two passengers were taken to the local hospital but have suffered no serious injuries. In nearby Brazos County, authorities are also investigating a small plane crash at Texas A&M's Riverside Campus. The plane had two passengers on board, but the plane has yet to be located as it has disappeared from radar. The influx of plane system failures and malfunctions underscores the value and importance of pilot insurance.
