Pompeo unveils general aviation plan

U.S. Representative Mike Pompeo, R-Kansas, recently announced a new effort to improve the American perception of the aviation industry despite damaging comments from federal officials.
Pompeo, whose congressional district includes Wichita, is launching the America Flies campaign featuring a website with an online petition aviation advocates can sign to help promote the industry within the United States. Aviation professionals can share their stories and discuss the many benefits of a strong aviation industry in the country. The goal of the campaign is to spread the word of the positives of aviation to the American public and lawmakers, the Wichita Business Journal reported.
“We’ll be in every aviation venue we get to talking about America Flies,” Pompeo said. “We want to be able to respond with a thoughtful, kind and voluminous response every time this industry is attacked.”
According to Wichita news source KCTV, the Kansas economy has struggled with the loss of aviation manufacturing in the state. Dave Franson, executive director of the Wichita Aero Club, told the source that the city of Wichita has lost 13,000 aviation jobs in the past few years. But general aviation is important to small town America, as these planes will fly into more than 5,000 airports across the country, compared with the 500 airports most major airlines frequent.
Another important aviation tool is pilot insurance, which can be purchased to protect against accidents and malfunctions in the sky.
