Recession recovery seen in jet flights

June 13, 2011, 08:09 am

As the number of private jets and personal aircraft flights steadily plummeted along with the economy, experts believe the skies may soon be full again, according to USA Today. A major maintenance company for corporate aircraft, JSSI, reported an 11.4 percent increase in flight hours during the first quarter of 2011, compared to that same time frame last year.

While more people may be purchasing pilots life insurance and taking up flying, or flying in a more luxurious manner, experts say that the levels are not back up to where they were in 2007 and 2008. The backlash of big business excess may still be taking a toll on the industry, but aviation analysts believe the signs are pointing in the right direction.

"I think business aviation is looking like the broader economy," Dan Hubbard, spokesman for the National Business Aviation Association, told the media outlet. "You're seeing some indications that [give] you reason for cautious optimism, but [there's] a lot of mixed signals."

Industry experts report private flying has been growing since March of 2009, after a 35 percent drop in the 12 months prior, USA Today reports. The current levels are only down 10 percent from their 2008 height.
