SAFE receives grant to help modernize pilot training

April 20, 2011, 10:07 pm

The Society of Aviation and Flight Educators was recently awarded a grant by the Alfred L. and Constance C. Wolf Aviation Fund, according to AVweb.

The source says the group intends to use the funds for the upcoming Pilot Training Reform Symposium. The symposium is part of a number of measures the group has been taking lately in conjunction with other aviation groups in order to modernize pilot training and enhance the retention of student pilots - a growing problem for the aviation field.

"The Wolf Aviation Fund received applications from many strong candidates this year, so we are very grateful to the Wolf Fund for including our symposium among its list of grant recipients. The money will help offset the cost of this important symposium," SAFE chair Doug Stewart told the source.

Though having well-trained pilots is essential for maintaining a safe future for general aviation, even some pilots with extensive training face the risk of a fatal accident. Pilots with financial responsibilities that may survive them should they perish in a plane crash, may benefit from pilot life insurance
