Southwest Airlines has recently been named to Hispanic Business Magazine's list of 2010 Diversity Elite Companies in the country.

The airline made the list for its workforce diversity initiatives and strategies aimed at reaching Hispanic consumers. Southwest Airlines president of administration and chief people officer Jeff Lamb says he is pleased the company is being recognized by the media organization.

"We are proud to be selected by Hispanic Business Magazine as one of the top Diversity Elite 60 companies," says Lamb. "At Southwest Airlines, diversity and inclusion means having a modern and multi-faceted work force as a key competitive advantage in the national marketplace."

There are approximately 47.8 million Hispanics in the U.S., according to Census Bureau data. That number is projected to surge to 102.6 million by 2050. With such a rapid estimated rate of population growth, it's wise for businesses to reach the market.
