Young A&D workers want a new job

July 23, 2010, 05:24 pm

A large number of young adults in the aerospace and defense segment of the aviation industry aren't looking to settle down long-term with their current employer.

According to a study conducted by Aviation Week, 40 percent of those in A&D are looking for a new job. The results indicate that some are interested in still working in A&D, but want to work for a different company.

Aviation Week asserts that companies will be able to best obtain talent by listening to younger employees to find out what matters to them professionally.

"We asked students and young pros about what drives their career choices, what they think of A&D as a career, and what the industry needs to do to attract and retain them," says Aviation Week special projects editor Carole Rickard Hedden. "Smart companies will 'sell' themselves to their current employees - not just spend on recruiting outside."

The Bureau of Labor Statistics says that over 71,000 people were employed asaerospace engineers in 2008. The industry is expected to grow 11 percent over the next 10 years.ADNFCR-3158-ID-19905765-ADNFCR
