Air Plains to debut fuel solution at AirVenture

July 24, 2012, 09:40 am

Air Plains Services is featuring its new unleaded fuel solution for the aviation community at the Experimental Aircraft Association's AirVenture in OshKosh, Wisconsin.

The product, known as Inpulse, is an anti-detonant injection system that allows high-compression engines to run on low-octane fuels. The technology, known as water injection, is not new by any means, but is the first model for Air Plains.

Company officials stated the new system would allow a pilot more flexibility, fuel availability and money savings.

“Inpulse is currently available for the Cessna 188, Cessna 210 and Beech Baron IO-470 and IO-520 engines,” said Mike Kelley, who started the company in 1977 at Wellington Airport near Wichita, Kansas. “We plan to pursue additional models as the market demands a proven, effective solution for the high cost of and eventual phasing out of leaded fuel.”

Opening day for the 40th anniversary AirVenture is July 23.

Team RV, the world's largest formation aerobatic team, will be the first to perform at the event. The team is 10 years old and all members fly in aircraft they built themselves.

Pilots enjoying the event should remember to consider pilot life insurance, especially those who constructed their own aircraft.
