AOPA Aviation Summit ready for takeoff

October 3, 2012, 03:22 pm

The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association Aviation Summit is rapidly approaching as thousands of general aviation pilots and enthusiasts will be heading to Palm Springs, California, for the event on October 11 to 13. The AOPA Aviation Summit is a trade show and convention, which will feature 400 booths, dozens of aircraft on display and nearly 100 hours of seminars during the three day event.

"Whether you're an aircraft owner, a pilot who rents, or an aviation enthusiast, the Aviation Summit has something to offer, from the exhibits in the hall and at the airport, to the seminars and social events," said Craig Fuller, AOPA president and CEO. "You can also get answers to your aviation questions, explore all that our industry has to offer and discover new ways to get the most out of your flying."

The Parade of the Planes will occur on October 10. This spectacle is when dozens of aircraft taxi under their own power from Palm Springs International Airport to the Palm Springs Convention center.

The first day of the actual summit kicks off with various keynote speakers from all realms of aviation, including AOPA editor in chief Tom Haines, senior editor Dave Hirschman and editor at large Tom Horne talking with Fuller about their recent adventures around the world and Adam Kisielewski, a wounded war veteran and LSA pilot, will share his in story to event goers.

The following day, Michael Huerta, acting FAA administrator, will share his vision for the future of general aviation. The AOPA is also announcing the winner of its 2012 Tougher than Tornado Sweepstakes on the same day. That night, actor Harrison Ford, an aviation enthusiast, will donate a lunch and flight on his aircraft, with all the proceeds going toward the AOPA Foundation.

Sporty's recently announced that its free app for the iPad, iPhone and Android is ready to download. The app will help AOPA Aviation Summit attendees navigate their way through the convention.

The app includes a list of exhibitions, events, speakers and learning experiences that will be offered at the event. Furthermore, the app's My Summit feature can plan the day for an event-goer with an hour-by-hour itinerary featuring details, times and locations.

Pilots considering going to the event should be sure to never fly without pilot life insurance.
