US Airway pilots to picket in Philadelphia

September 8, 2010, 03:51 am

Tired of low pay and drawn-out contract negotiations, US Airways pilots are set to strike outside of Philadelphia International Airport. The pilots assert that the merger between US Airways and America West Airlines has been a turbulent experience for them.

US Airline Pilots Association president Mike Cleary says management has forgotten about all the sacrifices the pilots made during difficult times. Cleary asserts that it's time to pay pilots back for their flexibility.

"The pilots of US Airways have made significant concessions to help the airline successfully navigate multiple bankruptcies and the economic challenges that resulted from the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001," says Cleary. "We did so with the full expectation that US Airways would act morally at the next round of negotiations by remembering our sacrifices."

The pilot advocate group says talks have been going on for too long. US Airways pilots have been in the middle of negotiations with management for the past five years.

Other airlines are also experiencing pilot and management difficulties. Continental and United Airlines pilots are also struggling to find common ground with their higher-ups.ADNFCR-3158-ID-19937396-ADNFCR
