U.S. Sport Aviation Expo in Sebring a success

January 28, 2013, 12:08 pm

The U.S. Sport Aviation Expo in Sebring, Florida did not draw the usual crowds this year, as many airplanes did not make it on account of the weather. However, event officials are still saying the show was a big success, all things considered. The show was held on January 17-20.

The event, which was held at the Sebring Regional Airport in south central Florida, was more of a product show rather than a normal fly-in or air show. The U.S. Sport Aviation Expo looks to help buyers and sellers come together in order to help planes change hands.

Event officials changed this year's event to January from October in order to avoid the hurricane season. However, they could not avoid poor weather conditions.

“Certainly, Mr. Weather was not on our side,” said Expo Director Jana Filip.

Even still, this year's show featured a wide range of aircraft, from trikes to traditional fixed-wing aircraft.

Thunderbirds to be featured at 2013 Sun 'n Fun
A separate fly-in and expo is on the horizon, giving event goers a chance to see some grade-A flying. Officials announced at the International Council of Air Shows Convention in Las Vegas that the 2013 Sun 'n Fun International Fly-in & Expo will feature the United States Air Force Thunderbirds military jet team. The event will be held April 9-14 at Lakeland Linder Regional Airport in Lakeland, Florida.

“SUN ‘n FUN is honored and excited that the world's most recognized military jet team – the U.S.A.F. Thunderbirds – has included our event on their 2013 schedule,” said John Leenhout,  SUN ‘n FUN President and convention chairman. “Their participation will add to the aircraft and activities already being planned for this year's fly-in. We look forward to having the Thunderbirds here in Lakeland and know they will find the people and businesses throughout Lakeland, Polk County and central Florida to be avid enthusiasts and most hospitable hosts.”

The Thunderbirds flight team and their F-16s attended Sun n' Fun's last two air shows.

Any pilots looking for a new aircraft or considering flying to the upcoming 2013 Sun 'n Fun International Fly-in & Expo should remember never to take to the skies without pilot life insurance
