Used aircraft may be getting easier to find

July 8, 2010, 09:31 pm

Pilots looking to find a good deal on a used plane might not have to look so hard. USA Today reports that there has been a rise in private aircraft being repossessed.

Private plane repossession specialist Ken Cage told USA Today that he has picked up 15 planes worth over $1 million, a number greater than he's ever seen before.

Once an airplane that is to be repossessed is located, it can't be flown until special documentation can be found stating that the aircraft has received the appropriate inspections and maintenance, says the paper.

People who are interested in purchasing a repossessed plane should make sure they know exactly what they are purchasing. Sometimes planes aren't as well-cared for as they should be.

"Most of the time the batteries are dead, and things are going wrong," Cage told USA Today. "Planes are best when they're run frequently, and if folks are running out of money, they're not using the airplane. They're not paying for maintenance, sothat's the biggest issue."

Aviation news website AVWeb suggests that prospective used plane buyers get the aircraft appraised because unlike cars, each airplane is unique.ADNFCR-3158-ID-19881385-ADNFCR
