Version 2.0 of QInetiQ trainer app released

October 2, 2012, 02:39 pm

The general aviation community has been showered with tools and innovations that will benefit any pilot. Recent innovations are improving efficiency in the cockpit and weaning pilots off paper and toward an all-digital flight experience, before, during and after taking to the skies.

Many of these tools have come in the form of applications for mobile devices, and the latest announcement falls right in line. QinetiQ North America recently released an updated version of its Aviation Data Trainer application that is available in the iTunes Store.

The app gives air traffic controllers, pilots, airport staff and flight enthusiasts an effective way to memorize and test themselves on the International Civil Aviation Organization and International Air Transportation Association data sets.

“There has been a great deal of interest in the Aviation Data Trainer application in the U.S. and around the world,” said John Radziszewski, executive vice president and general manager of QinetiQ North America’s Software and Systems Engineering business unit. “This new version is faster, has more features and is easier to use. It provides a simple and innovative training solution for current and future air traffic controllers.”

The app is a subset of the Air Traffic Management suite of training applications that QNA has designed. It uses the same learn-play-test methodology, helping users commit the information to memory more efficiently, with hundreds of airports, telephony codes and aircraft and airline identifiers across North America, Europe and elsewhere in the world.

The new version 2.0 allows users to choose specific data sets that are relevant to their specific locality and allows them to learn these data sets at their own pace. The app is free to download and additional data sets can be added for a nominal fee.

ATP announced last month the new HubConnect Document Management App and Mobile Service for the iPad, which allows subscribers to access a library of maintenance publications, regulatory documents and pilot operating handbooks with their mobile devices.

“We developed this app in collaboration with our customers and OEM partners to meet the growing demand for an iPad solution that provides mobile and offline access to aircraft technical documents, regulatory publications and pilot operating handbooks,” said Oleg Zhoglo, ATP product manager. “The advantage of the HubConnect App is that subscribers to the ATP Aviation Hub Online Service can now access their content subscriptions out in the field, or in the cockpit, without requiring an internet connection.”

Pilots considering these applications should also look into pilot life insurance, ensuring a future is planned out in case of an emergency.
