Airline charges higher fee for specific seats

August 19, 2010, 08:10 pm

The creativity keeps coming from various airline carriers in their quest to make a profit while keeping ticket prices low. Long gone are the days when a flight would include a nice meal to tide passengers over on their flight.

Today, there seems to be a charge for everything. With additional fees for things such as luggage and other common necessities, it may not come as a surprise to some that now specific seats have a higher price tag attached to them.

American Airlines has recently announced that passengers can reserve the seats near the airplanes front exit for a fee starting at $19 at self-service check-in kiosks up to 24 hours before take-off.

"Express Seats highlights American's focus on offering customers what they value most," said American Airlines chief commercial officer Virasb Vahidi. "This is another great product under the Your Choice program that puts more travel choices in the customer's hands."

Airlines have been particularly hard-hitby the increase in fuel prices. The International Air Transport Association says that the global airline industry is expected to shell out $140 billion this year on fuel, an increase of $27 billion from 2009.ADNFCR-3158-ID-19928020-ADNFCR
