Aviation groups expanding

February 16, 2012, 10:43 am

St. Cloud Regional Airport in Minnesota is undergoing some renovations, with the general aviation building getting $136,000 in upgrades including a new roof, carpeting, canopy and restroom. The building's windows will also be tinted to make the facility more energy efficient.

According to the SC Times, the Minnesota Department of Transportation Aeronautics will contribute $90,000 to the project, and the rest will be covered by the airport. The maintenance projects are focusing on aging components of the airport that need replacing. The carpet, for example, was last replaced in 1995 and the bathrooms will be upgraded to make the trip to the airport more pleasant for passengers. Another way passengers can be safe while traveling is for pilots to invest in pilot insurance.

General Electric is also planning to improve its offerings, by expanding its U.S. network of operations with the opening of three new facilities. As part of a $580 million project, GE will grow its manufacturing and research and development operations in the United States, with plans to open the new locations in 2013. The investment will include new plants, equipment and tooling across a network of 55 U.S. operations, plus the creation of three new branches.
