Scholarships help fund aviation education

August 24, 2010, 07:03 pm

Getting a college education can be expensive. The CollegeBoard says private four-year colleges cost more than $26,000 a year on average. Fortunately for some students interested in pursuing a career in aviation, scholarship help is available.

Residents in select Ohio communities who are interested in pursuing an aviation-related career can apply for a scholarship from the Aviation Education Trust Fund, reports the Dayton Daily News.

The club's last president, Bill Wilmer, believes using the funds in this manner will allow the mission of the club to live on.

"Although the Middletown Aviation Club no longer exists, its objectives will continue to be fulfilled through the Aviation Educational Trust Fund by helping those who wish to pursue a career in aviation," Wilmer told the paper.

A recent workforce survey by Aviation Week found that creative talent is needed in aviation. In order to help remedy the problem, increased efforts are taking place to encourage more science, technology, engineering and math activities in school curricula. Having qualified talent to fulfill certain jobs, such as those related to aviation, are crucial to the country staying competitive in the global market.ADNFCR-3158-ID-19930119-ADNFCR
